Things went as planned... n he found her, after losing millions of dollars and 3 long years!! It was time to shut down the search operation, when the CEO of Google had a word with this guy n took over this application, This Software made a whopping 1 billion dollars profit in its first year, which we today know as ORKUT .

The guy's name is ORKUT BUYUKKOTEN . Yes its named after him only. Today he is paid a hefty sum by Google for the things we do like scrapping. He is expected to b the richest person by 2009.

Here is the true story:-
THE ORKUT STORY

"Orkut is an online trusted community Web site designed for friends. The main goal of our service is to make the social life of yourself and your friends more active and stimulating, " according to the Web site, which states that the service is "in affiliation with Google."

Orkut was launched on January 22, 2004 ,Thursday. The service sent out thousands of invitations to welcome individuals by Google when orkut was started , Google became interested in owning a social-networking service.

When its $30 million offer to buy Friendster was spurned, it wanted a social networking site of it's own.Buyukkokten, a computer science doctoral candidate at Stanford University before joining Google had all ready built one for Affinity Engines(AEI) called inCircle. Buyukkokten, was working on user interface design for Google. He decided to build this site as the independent project ,the outgrowth of a company policy whereby engineers can spend 20% of their time working on personal interests.(contd. ..in the below site)

Buyukkokten, with the help of a few other engineers, developed this site out of his passion for social networking services & Googles needs. This new site was extremely similar to the earlier one ,inCircle which he had build for AEI. It also had the same 9 bugs as that of inCircle. Google decided to name it after hiM. So it was called ORKUT.COM., as Buyukkokten was tough to spell/speak.

AEI Filed a suit against Google but Google shrugged off All the allegations. Despite all this and Some allegations by Overture ,Orkut became a huge success.

Some more info that is fake
Some other Cool Facts about this guy :

* He gets $12 from Google when every person registers to this website.
* He also gets $10 when you add somebody as a friend.
* He gets $8 when your friend's friend adds you as a friend & gets $6 if anybody adds you as friend in the resulting chain.
* He gets $5 when you scrap somebody & $4 when somebody scraps you.
* He also gets $200 for each photograph you upload on Orkut.
* He gets $2.5 when you add your friend in the crush-list or in the hot-list.
* He gets $2 when you become some body's fan.
* He gets $1.5 when somebody else becomes your fan.
* He even gets $1 every time you log out of Orkut.
* He gets $0.5 every time you just change your profile-photograph.
* He also gets $0.5 every time you read your friend's scrap-book & $0.5 every time you view your friend's friend-list.

orkut is owned by Google. ORKUT BUYUKKOTEN is paid his normal salary + a small amount of profit (less than 10 %). not so much AS mentioned ABOVE.

The Google Story..

1)Google is a mis-spelt word. The original word is Googol which means 1 followed by 100 zeroes.

2)Larry Page's brother Carl page also sold his internet company during the dot com era for an eye popping $500 million.

3)Google's ad model was originally developed by a company named Overture ( Now a Yahoo company)

4)From their original hostel at Stanford, Larry Page and Sergey Brin were shifted to a newly constructed building named William Gates building.

5)Though a tech company Google followed the practices of media companies during its IPO. To protect itself from unwanted takeover threats the company issued class A and B types of shares. Valued similarly the two classes of shares differed only in their voting rights. The company also developed an auction based system of allotting its stake to prevent unwanted volatility just after listing.

6)Google had lost the Amazon Europe ad deal to Yahoo. Larry and Serjey were traveling on their private jet when they got this news. With much persuation the founders arranged a secret meeting with Amazon's CEO. Google raised its bid to such a level that Yahoo was eventually forced to back out of the deal saying that it did not make business sense for the latter.

7)Google's inhouse chef Charlie Ayers is one of the few chefs in the world who became a millionaire by selling personal Google shares given to him.

8)Its very rare to find Kleiner Perkins and sequoia capital investing in the same venture. Larry and Sergie played a sleek game pitting the two VC'c against each other resulting in the two firms investing $12.5 million each.
9)Google has a policy where employees are allowed to spend 20% of their time persuing their interests. Google news, Gmail and a host of other applications are a result of employee ideas which originated during this 20% time.

10)Google has one of the largest hardware infrastructure and computing power in the world. This can be gauged from the fact that the company crawl the entire web and saves it in its computers. When a user searches for something, the google computers searches through the saved pages and throws out relevant results within seconds.

Cervo: Maruti’s Answer to Tata Nano

India experienced a watershed moment when Ratan Tata fulfilled his promise
with the launch of Nano, the most economic vehicle in the Indian market, and
arguably, in the world. Ever since the launch of Tata Nano, the whole globe
is behind the idea of cheaper wheels. Now, it’s the turn of Maruti, who is
seriously planning a car priced closer to Nano, and it could apparently be
the Cervo <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_Cervo>, a compact five door
mini that might put the other kids on the block in the shade.
The Cervo looks like a smaller Chevrolet
Beat<http://www.chevrolet.co.in/content_data/AP/IN/en/GBPIN/001/beat-model...>with
cues from Honda
Jazz <http://www.hondacarindia.com/jazz/index.aspx>’s design. The phenomenal
fuel efficiency is one of the USPs of this car.
Powered by Suzuki’s 660cc engine – as against Nano’s 623cc – the Cervo could
be priced between 1.5 to 2 lakhs, a little higher than Nano. But Cervo looks
too stylish and futuristic to be priced under 2 lakhs. So it’s obvious that
Maruti needs to delete some of the features available in the car, or use a
cheaper material to make a potent contender to Nano.
Inside, the dashboard of the Cervo looks almost like the Swift, with the
rectangular air vents in the centre and the circular ones on the sides.
Power windows and airbags are available in the international markets but
chances are that Indians will have to compromise on that.
Although not all can repeat the Nano story, Maruti has resources and
expertise to come up with such a model at a cheap price without compromising
on quality. But can they pull it off? Let’s all hope so.

Suzuki Cervo
In November 2006, Suzuki reintroduced the Cervo
name.[11]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_Cervo#cite_note-10>The
modern, Alto-based Cervo is still a kei
car <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kei_car> but is much more luxurious than
its predecessor. The Cervo originally came equipped with the 658 cc K6A
engine (54 hp in the normally aspirated
VVT<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_valve_timing>
*G* version, 60 hp in the turbo *T* and *TX* version). It is only available
as a five-door with a four-speed automatic (with a manual mode in the turbo
cars), and is marketed as a more masculine alternative to the MR
Wagon<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_MR_Wagon>.
The nicer grade Cervos came with keyless entry and
Bluetooth<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth>.
In June 2007 a *G Limited* normally aspirated model was added, with the
fourteen-inch alloys and rear spoiler of the *TX*.
In October 2007, the Cervo received the Good Design
Award<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Design_Award>,
and the *SR* version was introduced. This had a new, 64 hp direct
injection<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasoline_direct_injection>turbo
engine and a seven-step CVT
transmission<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuously_variable_transmission>,
the first time for such a combination to be available. With front wheel
drive, this car achieved a remarkable 23.0 km/l (54 mpg) on the test cycle.
The Cervo also received some minor updates across the line, with new liquid
seal engine mounts and suspension changes. In May 2008 the range received
more minor updates, with new colors being added and a new limited edition
model, the *G Limited II*, which featured alcantara interior and a sporty
exterior. Other models received new aero parts and other equipment, gas
discharge headlights were now available on the *SR*.

In May 2009, the Cervo received its most recent upgrade. The *T* model was
discontinued, the *TX* received the "aero" front dam of the *SR* while the
gas mileage of the *G* version was improved to meet the 15% gas mileage
improvement goals for Japanese fiscal year 2010. The very efficient *SR* is
the only turbocharged Kei car <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kei_car> to
qualify for the lower tax grades for especially environmentally friendly
vehicles, combining this with being the most powerful version. The Cervo was
discontinued by Suzuki during March 2010.

Maruti Suzuki <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maruti_Suzuki>, the
Indian<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India>subsidiary of Suzuki is
planning to launch a reduced version of Cervo in
Indian market as a competition to Tata
Nano<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tata_Nano>
.[12] <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_Cervo#cite_note-11
Suzuki expects to regain the market prominence in the small car segment it
had enjoyed during the era of Maruti
800<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maruti_800>.
Maruti Cervo is priced between Rs 150,000 - Rs 200,000 (ex-showroom Delhi),
which is higher than the price of Tata Nano.
Cervo is expected to be rolled out within
2010.[13]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_Cervo#cite_note-12

NASA - Mystery of the Solar Tsunami—Solved

Mystery of the Solar Tsunami—Solved

Sometimes you really can believe your eyes. That's what NASA's Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) is telling researchers about a controversial phenomenon on the sun known as the "solar tsunami."

Years ago, when solar physicists first witnessed a towering wave of hot plasma racing across the sun's surface, they doubted their senses. The scale of the wave was staggering: It rose up higher than Earth itself and rippled out from a central point in a circular pattern millions of kilometers in circumference. Skeptical observers suggested it might be a shadow of some kind—a trick of the satellite's eye—but surely not a real wave.

"Now we know," says Joe Gurman of the Solar Physics Laboratory at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. "Solar tsunamis are real."

The twin STEREO spacecraft confirmed their reality in February 2009 when sunspot 11012 unexpectedly erupted. The blast hurled a billion-ton cloud of gas (a coronal mass ejection, or CME) into space and sent a tsunami racing along the sun's surface. STEREO recorded the wave from two positions separated by 90 degrees, giving researchers an unprecedented view of the event.

"It was definitely a wave," says Spiros Patsourakos of George Mason University, lead author of a paper reporting the finding in Astrophysical Journal Letters. "Not a wave of water, but a giant wave of hot plasma and magnetism."

The technical name is "fast-mode magnetohydrodynamical wave," or "MHD wave" for short. The one STEREO saw reared up about 100,000 kilometers high, raced outward at 250 km/second (560,000 mph), and packed as much energy as 2.4 million megatons of TNT (1029 ergs).

Solar tsunamis were discovered in 1997 by the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO). In May of that year, a CME came blasting up from an active region on the sun's surface, and SOHO recorded a tsunami rippling away from the blast site.

"We wondered," recalls Gurman, "is that a wave, or just a shadow of the CME overhead?"

SOHO's single point of view was not enough to answer the question—neither for that first wave nor for many similar events recorded by SOHO in years that followed.

The question remained open until after the launch of STEREO. At the time of the February 2009 eruption, STEREO-B was directly over the blast site, while STEREO-A was stationed at a right angle —"perfect geometry for cracking the mystery," says co-author Angelos Vourlidas of the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C.

The physical reality of the waves has been further confirmed by movies of the waves crashing into things. "We've seen the waves reflected by sunspots," says Vourlidas. "And there is a wonderful movie of a solar prominence oscillating after it gets hit by a wave. We call it the 'dancing prominence.'"

Solar tsunamis pose no direct threat to Earth, but they are important to study. "We can use them to diagnose conditions on the sun," notes Gurman. "By watching how the waves propagate and bounce off things, we can gather information about the sun's lower atmosphere available in no other way."

"Tsunami waves can also improve our forecasting of space weather," adds Vourlidas, "Like a bull-eye, they 'mark the spot' where an eruption takes place. Pinpointing the blast site can help us anticipate when a CME or radiation storm will reach Earth."

And they're pretty entertaining, too. "The movies," he says, "are out of this world."

The Top 5 methods to Become a Millionaire – How to Become a Millionaire

Anyone Can Become a Millionaire by Following a Few Simple Steps

Becoming a millionaire isn’t all that difficult and there are countless ways to achieve that milestone. Some people do it through real estate, others start their own business, while some simply get lucky by winning the lottery or winning big on a game show. What is even more interesting is that you don’t have to be wealthy to begin with nor do you have to earn six figures to reach this goal.
I know some people who earn well over $100,000 and all they have to show for it is a large mortgage payment and a fancy car that depreciates faster than a glass of milk left outside in the summer sun. Anyone can become a millionaire and there are five things you need to do to have the best shot of making that a reality.

1. Earn Income.

Clearly, the more money you make, the faster you can reach that milestone, but that doesn’t mean your average Joe with a average income can’t obtain millionaire status. The current median income in this country ranges between $35,000-$60,000, depending on where you live. Better yet, get married so you have dual incomes. The wonderful thing about having dual incomes is that even with two people in the household, your income may double, but your expenses typically don’t.
If you don’t earn even an average income, all is not lost. It is up to you to do something about it. A negative attitude about your job or your earning potential won’t change anything. Be proactive and make the decision to improve your situation. It is your life, so take control and realize that things don’t change overnight. It may take a few years of slow growth before you reach the point where you want to be, but you can do it if you try. Remember, short of inheriting money from a relative or winning the lottery, you will need income to become a millionaire.

2. Live Within Your Means.

Ok, so you have income but now what? It doesn’t matter how much money you make if you spend it all or spend even more than you make. It might be nice to eat out at nice restaurants every night, or to always be on the cutting edge of designer fashion but, this will only make you feel like a millionaire. This doesn’t mean you have to live a miserable and miserly lifestyle, but you simply need to live reasonably.
Start by purchasing a home that you can comfortably afford and drive vehicles that suit your lifestyle without straining your budget. You don’t have to be pulling down $75,000 a year and drive a 1992 Civic Hatchback or live in a dump, but throwing your money at a 4,000 square foot home in a gated community with luxury cars or SUVs that cost as much as one year of your salary won’t help you become a millionaire. Some may argue that an expensive home and real estate in general is a good way to become a millionaire, but I will touch on that later.

3. Save Money.

This isn’t rocket science but if you earn a reasonable income and you live within your means, guess what, you will probably have money left over to save. The problem most people have is they put savings last, as an afterthought. People pay bills, buy things and then whatever is leftover they try to save. That is the wrong way to save. I’m sure you’ve heard it before, but pay yourself first. Whether it is $100 a month or $1,000 a month, think of the savings as a bill that needs to be paid and do it regularly. If you are unable to save money you will find that your only wealth is in the form of material things. Start saving today with a high-yield online savings account.

4. Invest Wisely.

Now that you are saving money, you need to invest it wisely. Sticking it under the mattress isn’t going to help you reach your goals any faster. You don’t have to read the Wall Street Journal or watch CNBC everyday while actively managing your portfolio in order to be a good investor. Some of the best investment advice is to simply buy and hold and to buy low and sell high.
It is also important to remember that real estate is part of your investment picture, but it shouldn’t be all of it. Too many people stake almost everything they have into a primary residence and expect it to appreciate in value. Just like any investment, generally speaking, over time you will make money. There isn’t much debate about that, but relying heavily on real estate is no different than if you rely on one stock to fund your retirement. Start investing for free – trade stocks for free at Zecco. The Free Trading Community. www.zecco.com
You can become a millionaire by simply buying a single stock and holding onto it for 20 years if it goes up significantly just like you can buy a home $500,000 home and have it double in value in 20 years. Take a lot of the risk out of the picture by making sure all of your eggs aren’t in the same basket and develop an investment strategy that will provide steady growth.

5. Stick With Your Plan.

If you have done the previous four items the only thing left to do is to continue doing it and stick to the plan. As far as income is concerned, always be on the lookout for ways to increase your income, whether it is through climbing the ladder at your current job, finding work elsewhere, or maybe even starting a business on the side. Increased income will mean you can save even more, provided you aren’t foolishly spending the additional money. As that additional money gets tucked away into savings or investments it will continue to grow even more quickly.

It Isn’t Hard to Do if You Work at It

Unfortunately, most people are looking for a way to get rich quick or to capitalize on the next big thing. It is true that some people have made their wealth through playing the real estate market, while others have done so by investing in a few stocks that exploded, but this is the exception and not the norm. If the above list seems overly simplistic, that’s good. There are no secrets to becoming a millionaire and almost anyone has the chance to make it happen. The process is simple:
1. Make money
2. Don’t spend all of your money
3. Save some money
4. Invest that money
5. Repeat
Certainly, there are many factors in play that can make this easier or more difficult for different people. This is simply the process that you can use in order to reach that goal, whether it is in 5 years or 50, if you follow a few basic steps you can do it.
